I first came across this verse about 4 years ago but for the past 3 weeks, I would say it has been ever so much more pertinent and ever so much more meaningful to me. Why? Well because it comes with gaining a deeper understanding of God’s love for me.
What is the verse I’m talking about? Zephaniah 3:17 - the verse says ‘for the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty Saviour. He will take delight in you with gladness. With His love, He will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs’, the part that sticks out to me the most is the part where it says that God’s love will calm all my fears.
I further checked out synonyms for ‘calm’ just to get an even deeper understanding and they include restful, undisturbed, serene, quiet, peace. This is what God’s love does and provides. His love brings rest - rest of the mind and rest of the soul. The thing is are we tapping into that? Do we really believe in God’s love for us and the power that lies within it?
Fear and unbelief have the propensity to inhibit, invoke anxiety and incite a manner of unhelpful thoughts that can begin a downward spiral. All of these things are the opposite of what God wants for His own and hence why when we feel these feelings that can send us in a downward pattern, we should verbally affirm ‘I am loved with a soothing love, a calming love, a love that erases and takes away fears.’
Affirm that you are loved with an everlasting love that will always be on hand to ensure that you live in peace. Peace being that fact that you are secure in Him irrespective of the circumstances and the trials, the tests and the struggles that you may face.
